“I lost my husband way back in 1995. Since then I had to fend for my children through making handicraft bags and mats that I sold to support the big family. We had a family of about 8 children at the time, most of them have since died. I stopped making handicrafts because of my age, I can barely see well let alone move around hawking them. I’m happy that I can now eat and sleep in peace without having to worry about my grand kids’ school fees because Joy for children has helped with their school fees and scholastic materials. I’ve worked hard to see that my grandchildren go to school because of the regret I have in my heart, whenever I see people speak good English I admire them. The Baganda have a saying “Obutasoma buluma bukulu”. I had a chance to study but I dropped out of school just because I saw some of my friends quitting. Life is funny, you’ll find a family that’s financially stable but their children don’t want to go to school, and then you’ll find another child that loves school so much but the financial situation at their home can’t let them continue.”
