“I have three children and their father stopped supporting us a while ago. It has always been up to me to make sure they get all the basic needs and requirements. I live for my children, seeing them happy makes me happy too. That’s why I’ll sacrifice everything for them as long as I live.  I will never forget when I had to get operated on during the birth of my third child, I thought I was going to die. It all started with immense pain in my abdomen area and by the time I was rushed to the hospital I had lost consciousness. Thanks to the doctors that saved me and my baby. My belly is still swollen. It’s not painful but very uncomfortable. To all the children out there especially girls, if your parents have the capacity to support you through school please focus. Don’t let these men lie to you and divert you from your goal. At the end of the day you have a lot to lose. I’m happy my daughter is in school, thanks to Joy for children. Joy for Children taught me how to save and these savings have helped me a lot. I used to keep my money in the house and it would get stolen because I shared the room with five other friends of mine. I had no knowledge about banking and opening up a bank account, I used to think bank accounts were for rich people alone. My advice to other women out there is to join these women savings groups in their communities because they are very helpful. You don’t just get money or financial advice but you make friends as well. Joy for Children used to organize netball competitions for us, and we would compete with other women’s groups from other slums. I enjoyed it so much and I didn’t mind whether we won or lost.”
