Oh What JOY!

Shafiq is one of the Children with Disabilities living in the slums of Bwaise, and supported by Joy for Children Uganda. He lives with his mother solely and never stops bringing her mother smiles and joy as an only child.

Growing up he was a happy jolly child who could run around and play with other children, at age 3 he fell sick and started losing memory and developing seizures whenever he was awake. Upon hospital consultation, his mother found out that he had cerebral malaria and had developed Cerebral palsy. His speech was greatly affected and part of his body became paralyzed.

Two years ago, Mama Shafiq was introduced to Joy for Children Women Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA). The officer visited her weekly and engaged her in discovery bible study sessions, every time she visited her also played with Shafiq and gave him physiotherapy and support. Through our interactions with Mama shafiq, she came to faith and now goes to a nearby church. She has now found solace in God and the number of times we have visited her this year, she never misses the chance to lead the prayers. Through physiotherapy provided by our officer, Shafiq can now stand alone and move around by himself. This story indeed resonates with our name and purpose.
