“We moved to Mulago in 1998. I’ll never forget a time when my two sons were in their senior six with just a few hours to sit their UACE exams and they were both sent back home. I remember they came running and as soon as they told their father what had happened he got a high pressure attack. The kids started crying and fanning their father who was lying down on the sitting room floor. When he gained consciousness and some energy they helped him on his feet and with their support they walked slowly to the school because he needed to talk to the school headmaster so that they could let them sit their final exams. When they got to the staff room they all broke into tears but thank God they let them sit and they passed. My happiest day was when my daughter told me she wanted to be a doctor, I was so happy even my blood pressure shot up. It meant everything to me because I wanted to be a doctor but because of financial challenges that dream wasn’t realized. So it’s almost like my daughter is about to accomplish what I couldn’t.  Joy for children is helping us with her school fees. Before we used to just have friends from the same neighborhood but when Joy for Children came and established women groups through which I met a lot of women from other communities and zones. They helped each of the women in these groups get academic sponsorship for their children and also taught us how to save.
