Website operator and scope
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern access to and use of this website and the digital services made available through it by Joy for Children Uganda (“JFCU”, “we”, “us” or “our”), a Ugandan non-profit children’s-rights organisation registered with the National Bureau for NGOs under registration number INDR66874691NB.

These Terms apply to public pages, searches, articles, newsletters, project and event profiles, success stories, galleries, downloads, comments, contact and feedback forms, volunteer and sponsorship enquiries, donation facilities, safeguarding pathways and any account-based service hosted on this website. A separate written agreement may apply to employment, consultancy, grants, partnerships, volunteering, sponsorship or programme participation. Where a signed agreement conflicts with these Terms, the signed agreement governs that relationship.
Acceptance, electronic records and eligibility
By selecting an acceptance option in the website notice, creating an account, submitting a form, making a donation or continuing to use an interactive service after the notice is presented, you confirm that you have had a reasonable opportunity to read these Terms and agree to be bound by them. The website records the current policy version in a first-party cookie for up to 365 days. A materially revised version will require renewed acceptance.
Electronic acceptance and records may have legal effect under Uganda’s Electronic Transactions Act. These Terms do not remove any mandatory right or protection that applicable law gives you.
Age and capacity
If you are under 18, ask a parent, guardian or trusted adult to help you use general interactive services where appropriate. A child or any person seeking protection information may access the confidential protection pathway without being discouraged from seeking help. Nothing in these Terms is intended to limit a child’s right to safety, privacy, information or access to appropriate support.
If you accept these Terms on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation. If you do not agree, do not submit ordinary transactional forms; you may still read the policies and access urgent protection information.
Permitted use
You may browse, search, download publicly offered resources, share links, subscribe to communications, submit genuine enquiries and use website services for their stated purposes. You may make a reasonable number of copies of public materials for personal, educational, journalistic, policy or non-commercial community use, provided that you:
- retain JFCU’s authorship, copyright and source notices;
- do not distort the material or present it as an official JFCU position when it is not;
- do not use images, stories or identifying details in a way that could endanger, shame, stereotype or exploit a child or community member;
- check any licence or additional notice attached to a report, photograph, dataset or third-party work; and
- obtain written permission for commercial exploitation, substantial republication, fundraising in JFCU’s name, use of JFCU branding or creation of derivative campaign materials.
Prohibited conduct
You must not use the website to:
- break any applicable law, facilitate abuse, exploitation, trafficking, harassment, discrimination, fraud or other harm;
- submit a knowingly false safeguarding allegation, impersonate another person, conceal a conflict of interest or fabricate consent;
- identify, locate, contact or profile a child or protected person from information published on the website;
- upload malware, executable code, unlawful content, personal data you are not entitled to disclose, or material that infringes another person’s rights;
- attempt unauthorised access, probe vulnerabilities, bypass authentication, interfere with security controls, overwhelm the service, scrape at disruptive scale or reverse engineer protected systems;
- automate form submissions, evade rate limits, defeat anti-spam controls or reuse single-use links or security tokens;
- collect email addresses or other personal information for unsolicited marketing;
- misrepresent an affiliation with JFCU, use our name to solicit funds without authority, or create misleading copies of the website; or
- remove rights notices or use content in a context that undermines child dignity, informed consent or safeguarding restrictions.
Security research must not involve accessing personal data, disrupting services or exploiting a vulnerability. Report suspected security issues privately to info@joyforchildren.org.
Safeguarding reports and immediate danger
The safeguarding pathway is intended for genuine concerns about a child’s safety or welfare. It is not a public discussion forum, an emergency-dispatch service or a substitute for police, medical or other emergency services. If a child is in immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency or child-protection authority as soon as it is safe to do so.
Submit only information reasonably necessary to explain the concern. Do not investigate, confront an alleged perpetrator, circulate evidence publicly or place yourself or a child at further risk. JFCU may triage, restrict, preserve, refer or disclose a report where reasonably necessary for child protection, legal compliance, professional safeguarding duties or prevention of serious harm. Access to reports is restricted and audited.
Anti-abuse controls may delay, quarantine or reject automated, duplicative or high-risk submissions. A risk score does not make the final safeguarding decision; authorised personnel review cases according to JFCU procedures.
Accounts, credentials and administrative access
If you receive an account, invitation or signed private link, it is personal to you unless JFCU expressly says otherwise. You must provide accurate information, protect passwords and multi-factor authentication methods, sign out of shared devices and notify JFCU promptly of suspected compromise. Do not share privileged links, bypass role restrictions or access records without a legitimate work purpose.
JFCU may require password changes, multi-factor authentication, identity verification or renewed policy acceptance. Administrative activity may be logged for security, safeguarding and accountability. We may suspend access where credentials are compromised, employment or authority ends, policy requirements are not met or continued access presents risk.
Feedback, comments, media and other material you submit
You remain responsible for material you submit. You confirm that it is accurate to the best of your knowledge, that you have authority to submit it and that it does not unlawfully disclose another person’s information or infringe intellectual-property rights.
Submitting material does not automatically make it public. Feedback, comments, images and stories may be moderated, rejected, kept private or removed. Public success stories and identifiable media require the applicable consent and safeguarding approval. Where you separately agree to publication, you grant JFCU a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, format and communicate the approved material for the stated public-interest purpose. That licence is subject to the agreed consent scope, identity safeguards and any lawful withdrawal rights.

Donations, recurring gifts and payment services
A donation is a voluntary gift to support JFCU’s charitable work. Unless a campaign expressly states that funds are legally restricted, a project designation expresses your preference and JFCU may apply funds to the designated work or, where that is completed, overfunded, no longer feasible or legally restricted, to closely related charitable purposes consistent with our mission and donor obligations.
Payment processing may be provided by banks, card processors, mobile-money operators, PayPal, GlobalGiving or other identified providers. Their terms and privacy notices also apply to their service. JFCU does not intentionally store complete card credentials or mobile-money PINs. Never enter a PIN into a JFCU text field or disclose it to a person claiming to collect it for us.
Before confirming a payment, review the amount, currency, frequency and payment method. Recurring gifts continue at the selected interval until cancelled through the provider or JFCU-supported process. Contact us promptly about a duplicate, erroneous or unauthorised transaction. Refunds are assessed case by case, subject to law, payment-provider rules, fraud controls and whether funds have already been irrevocably applied. Transaction charges and currency conversion may be non-refundable.
Tax treatment varies. JFCU does not promise that a donation is deductible in your jurisdiction; obtain independent advice where necessary. A confirmation email or receipt records the transaction but is not a representation about tax status.
Volunteer, sponsorship, event and programme enquiries
Submitting an application or enquiry does not guarantee selection, placement, sponsorship matching, event admission, employment, funding or partnership. JFCU may conduct safeguarding, suitability, reference, identity or compliance checks appropriate to the role and will explain additional requirements where applicable.
Child sponsorship is administered without public child catalogues. Sponsors do not acquire custody, decision-making authority, unrestricted contact or access to a child’s personal records. Communication and visits, where offered, must follow JFCU safeguarding procedures.
Event information may change for safety, operational or public-health reasons. JFCU will make reasonable efforts to communicate material changes to registered participants.
Website content and intellectual property
Unless a page states otherwise, JFCU owns or is licensed to use the website design, text, graphics, photographs, videos, databases, logos and downloadable materials. “Joy for Children Uganda”, “JFCU” and associated visual identity must not be used in a manner that implies endorsement or authority without written permission.
Some reports, news links, embedded videos, partner logos and campaign materials belong to third parties and remain subject to their terms. Factual public information may be quoted with fair attribution where permitted by law, but access to a webpage does not transfer ownership.
We take care with accuracy, but programme figures, event details, external links and archived content may change. Publication dates and context should be preserved when quoting historical material.
Third-party websites, embeds and services
The website may link to GlobalGiving, media publishers, YouTube, maps, social networks, payment providers, government bodies and partner websites. A link does not mean JFCU controls or endorses every statement, product, security practice or privacy practice on the destination. Review the destination’s terms before providing information.
External services may be unavailable or change without notice. Where an embedded service is privacy-sensitive, JFCU may use a privacy-enhanced embed, require interaction before loading or provide a link instead.
Availability, disclaimers and limitation of liability
The website is provided on an “as available” basis for information and engagement. JFCU aims to keep services secure and accurate but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability, error-free content, compatibility with every device, permanent preservation of every link or that all malicious activity will be prevented.
Website content is not medical, legal, financial or emergency advice. Obtain qualified advice for decisions requiring professional judgement. Nothing here excludes a duty or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability arising from fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence, violation of mandatory data-protection duties or harm for which exclusion is prohibited by law.
To the extent permitted by law, JFCU is not responsible for indirect or consequential loss arising solely from reliance on general website information, third-party services, events outside our reasonable control or use of the website contrary to these Terms. This provision does not reduce safeguarding obligations or your statutory rights.
Moderation, suspension and enforcement
JFCU may remove content, restrict a feature, block abusive traffic, preserve evidence, suspend an account or report conduct to an appropriate authority where reasonably necessary to protect people, investigate misuse, comply with law or maintain service integrity. We will use proportionate measures and preserve review or appeal routes where appropriate.
Provisions concerning intellectual property, privacy, payment records, liability, governing law and any accrued rights survive termination of access.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms when services, risks, laws or organisational practices change. The page displays the effective date and version. Material changes will trigger the website acceptance notice again. Changes do not retrospectively remove rights or alter completed transactions unless lawfully agreed.
Governing law, concerns and contact
These Terms are governed by the laws of Uganda. The parties should first attempt to resolve a concern in good faith by contacting JFCU. Nothing prevents either party from seeking urgent protective relief, reporting a safeguarding or criminal concern, exercising statutory data rights or approaching a competent regulator or court.
