Joy for Children Uganda is deeply saddened by the tragic death of four juveniles following a brutal stabbing incident at Gaba Early Childhood Development Programme School.According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Rachael Kawala, the assailant has been identified as Christopher Okello Onyum.

International Day of the Girl 2025- Press Release

Today, on 11 October, Joy for Children Uganda (JFCU) joins the world to mark the International Day of the Girl Child (IDGC). This day was established by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 66/170 on 19 December 2011, which designated October 11 to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges they face. The 2025 theme, “The Girl I Am, the Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,” calls for recognition of girls as leaders in addressing crises including poverty, conflict, climate change, and gender-based violence.

Media Statement: Senior student stabbed to death in a suspected student gang violence in Mbale district- Eastern Uganda

Joy for Children Uganda is saddened by the recent murder of a 19 years senior four student in Mbale District. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and the wider community affected by this tragic act.According to reports from the police, investigations show that the incident was a result of student gang violence. This event highlights the broader challenges posed by the rise of violence among learners, including physical fights, bullying, emotional abuse, and student strikes within educational institutions.

Media Statement: Joy for Children Uganda Commends Government's Directive on Corporal Punishment in Schools

Joy for Children Uganda applauds the recent directive issued by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Kahinda Otafiire, and instructing law enforcement to take decisive action against corporal punishment in schools. The letter was addressed to the Inspector General of Police and copied to key ministries including the Ministry of Education and Sports, a clear sign of the government’s renewed commitment to ending violence against children in schools.The letter issued clear stated that :“Corporal punishment is assault and a criminal offence punishable by law. You are therefore directed to arrest and prosecute any teacher or school authority who is found assaulting learners in the name of punishment.”

oy for Children Uganda is deeply concerned about the rising cases of suicide among students across the country. The tragic loss of students from Seeta High School and Divine Mercy Secondary School is a stark reminder of the urgent need to prioritize students' mental well-being.

JFCU statement on school attack in Kasese District

Joy for Children Uganda was saddened to learn about the brutal massacre of innocent students of Lubiriha S.S in Mpondwe - Bwera, Kasese District. On June 17th 2023 , it was reported that Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) attacked Lhubiriha secondary school in a border town of Mpondwe living 41 people dead including 38 students who were burned, shot and hacked to death.
