“I want to be a doctor and a fashion designer after my school. I would love to treat people and save lives, and I love fashion. In Uganda so many mothers are dying while giving birth and people are in hospitals dying because nobody is actually giving them attention. There’s a lot of negligence in hospitals especially public hospitals. Seeing a patient recovering and getting back on their feet must be the most rewarding thing about being a doctor. As for fashion designing, it is something that I’ve desired from a very young age, seeing my primary 5 teachers and mother dressed nicely and looking good. Joy for Children counseled us on how to protect ourselves from sexual harassment and also the steps we can take in case we or someone we know has been harassed sexually. They also taught us about our body changes as girls. It was the first time someone was telling me that what was happening to my body was normal. I remember at the end of the session they gave us reusable sanitary towels and showed us how to use them.”
