“I have two years that I’ll never forget in my life. In 1998 when my husband died and in 2010 when I fell sick yet I was the breadwinner in the family. If it wasn’t for my relatives I don’t think I would have made it through. I was dying but all I kept thinking about was my kids. When I recovered I got some money from them which I used as capital to buy fruits that I would resell. At first, business was going well but then the people I had hired to hawk started cheating me. They would make sales and come back to me with claims that they had been arrested by KCCA law enforcers who took all their money. This went on for a while until all the capital was lost. I had to stop the business since I was now in debt and needed to focus on how to repay the money. Lucky for me, as I was still trying to figure out where to get the money, that’s when Joy For children came and introduced women groups in our area. I had to join because I needed social and financial support plus knowledge. I have learned how to save and how to take care of my family. Many people out there don’t know how to take care of their families.”
