THE MENENGAGE UGANDA NETWORK

In July 2022, Joy For Children -Uganda was appointed as new secretariat to host and coordinate MenEngage Uganda ,a network of 57 CSOs working to engage men and boys in reducing gender inequalities, preventing gender based violence, reducing HIV, and promoting good health of women, girls, boys and men.

MenEngage Uganda is subordinate to MenEngage Africa, one of six continental members of the global MenEngage Alliance. Sonke is the Secretariat of MenEngage Africa (MEA), which consists of 22 country networks spread across East, West, Central and Southern Africa, which form the AGM.

MenEngage Uganda aims to promote gender equality through transforming men and masculinities in Uganda. We are using fact-based, feminist informed gender transformative approaches for an inclusive advocacy and capacity building so as to forge synergies to fight against holistic gender discrimination and gender inequality. MenEngage Uganda works with men and boys in fatherhood campaigns, Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, Violence prevention, Human Rights defending and Economic empowerment to make men part of the solution to fight gender-based violence (GBV), promote women’s empowerment and attain true gender equality.

A Ugandan society where men and boys are meaningfully engaged as part of the solution to gender inequalities.

Mission

To improve the capacity of CSOs in evidence-based male engagement work through advocacy and network building to achieve gender equity.
