VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: Project Officer - Children with Disability Project

Joy for Children Uganda is implementing a Children with Disabilities project in Kampala's slum areas including Bukoto, Mulago, Bwaise and Makerere Kivulu. The project aims at raising awareness of the different forms of disabilities and sensitizing communities and parents on the rights of children with disabilities. Job Description

Overall Purpose: • To support disabled children and their families, both through home visits and within group settings, ensuring that all children have the opportunity to socialise, play and learn in a stimulating and safe environment. • To organise local meetings to support families with healthcare, physiotherapy, education and play working alongside other agencies and groups • To support parents in accessing equipment and services available to them • To raise awareness of disability issues in the local community


• BA social sciences, counselling and guidance, Community Psychology and any other relevant qualification.

Key Qualities:

• Good at working with children • Working as part of a team • Working with families (Both individually and part of groups) • Able to write detailed reports • Desire to develop new skills • Organised • Computer skills • English and Maths • Enthusiastic about the project • Good Communication Skills • To support and empower children and their families to engage in activities


• Worked with disabled children • Knowledge of communication methods with disabled children • Understanding of Equal Opportunities


• One year with 3 months probation
